JAKARTA: PT Sun Life Financial booked IDR189 billion premium revenue or soared by 22% in the first quarter 2011. In the same period last year, the premium revenue was IDR154.9 billion.Premium revenue of new business lines rose by 20% to IDR88.7 billion in the first quarter of 2011, from IDR73.9 billion in the first quarter last year. Unit linked product gave 64% contribution while the remaining was attributed by conventional life insurance.The company seeks to record an aggressive business growth following a prospective life insurance business opportunity, said Sun Life President Director Bert Paterson.He further added that Indonesians allocating their cash for life insurance is less than 1% of total gross domestic product. Compared to UK and India with 9% and 4%-5%, majority Indonesian do not have any insurance whereas Indonesia is very prone to natural disaster.One of the challenges is to provide access to insurance industry such as offering insurance product that is relevant to societys needs with affordable premium tariff, he said yesterday.Paterson explained that Sun Life optimize the performance of several insurance distribution lines such as agency, bancasssurance and telemarketing.Sun Life has around 200 telemarketing agents, partnering with ANZ, Citibank, BNI, BCA, Rabobank, Standard Chartered Bank, and GE Money Indonesia particularly in marketing life insurance products.He said that Sun Life has around 4,100 agents as it expects to add the agents to 8,000-9,000 agents this year.
